to write, or to edit, THAT is the question....

I'm having a serious dilemma, guys. As you might know, I've been working on my series, Victim of Prophecy, very seriously for over two years now. Of the five books, I have first drafts written of three of them. I'm about 10,000 words into the fourth, but I'm stuck. I know a couple of things happening in the middle, and I know the beginning and end, but I don't know anything else!!

On the other hand, I have sitting in front of me a HUGE binder that contains the first draft of the second book in the series. If you saw my post from yesterday, you've seen the results of me having that manuscript screaming up at me. But though I'm passionate about the story, the idea of going through and editing it makes me want to crawl into a corner and die.

I could also edit the third book in my series (Heaven knows it needs it, especially since I'm changing the whole book from first person to third), but I don't currently have a manuscript printed, I don't know if I have enough paper/ink to do so, and I'm waiting to get feedback from a friend on the draft I sent her.

And, just for fun, let's add a fourth option: I could write something completely different. I have a couple WIPs I could work on that aren't involved in this world at all. But I kind of can't get my brain out of this world....

So what are your thoughts? Should I try to write, or should I edit what I've already written?

Wish me luck!

  1. I was a little stuck on my WIP, too, which is a rewrite of an old project, so I'm operating in a familiar world, too. My mom called and of course she got an earful of my big problem. She offered suggestions, which initially I thought wouldn't work, but after talking it out with her, the solution popped into my head. It was related to her suggestion and I never would have thought of it without her, but it was something I had to work out on my own, too.

So maybe go brainstorm and come back to it. Talking about it without having it in front of you gives you the freedom to think outside of the box. Good luck!
